Chod is an ancient Tantric practice of feeding our demons. Rather than fight, destroy or attempt to transcend our inner demons, we transform them through kindness and compassion. Our demons are aspects of our inner experience that we feel the most threatened and tortured by. Our addictions, our violence, our victimhood, our deepest places of suffering. In this gestalt practice we externalize the demon and engage in an honest dialogue and inquiry with it, discovering its secret inner world. By engaging the demon with openness and curiosity, we discover its secret suffering and what it truly longs for. Then, we ceremonially feed the demon with the nectar of our own heart and compassion. As the demon is fed what it truly needs, it slowly transforms into an ally and totem with a special gift of power and medicine for us.
